Hoshi wasn't entirely sure where the month had gone. The first few weeks of university had been exciting, but also full of surprises. She had scored high enough on placement tests that they had put her in classes with second and third-year students. Hoshi was flattered, but she felt rather intimidated when she was around all the older students.

At least she was able to do some of her coursework online, which was really convenient. At the moment, she was sitting on the couch with a data PADD. Half of her attention was on a translation for her Latin class, and the rest was trying to figure out this Twitter thing that everyone seemed to be talking about.

[So very open for calls, emails, texts and tweets!]
Most of her things were already packed and sent ahead, but there were a few things that Hoshi left until the very end. So she was going around, checking the closet and under the bed, to make sure she had everything, like a certain beagle who did not want to go in his pet carrier.

"It won't be so bad. I promise," said Hoshi, crouching down and holding out a dog treat. "Look, at least you've got it better than Four-Dee. I had to put him in my backpack." Sure enough, there was a sad beeping sound from the backpack near the closet door.

[Hoshi's last post in Fandom! Door and post are open.]
Hoshi was worried when she got to the hotel and realized that Gunther was extremely grouchy from a lack of sleep. He ran around the lobby chasing the bugs with a meat cleaver until the radio announcement. Then he ran back to his room, packed a duffel bag, and was out the door before anyone could stop him.

She couldn't blame him if he'd had to listen to those bugs all night. They were giving her a massive headache, and by the 5th time the bugs launched into their rendition of "The Power of Love," she'd had enough. Hoshi was gone by the time Miss Connell arrived to put a message up on the specials board.

One moment, the little bird was perched on the back of a chair, happily chirping away. Then the chirping stopped and Hoshi found herself crashing to the floor, naked.

"Not fair!" shouted Hoshi, scrambling to her feet and covering herself with her hands. Thank goodness the door was closed. "I had to miss my birthday and my boyfriend's visit because the island turned me into an animal. The least it could do is to give me a shirt!"

The island must have agreed with her, because a blue t-shirt appeared on the bed. Hoshi grumbled, but she put the t-shirt on before going to the closet to find some pants.

[Door closed, but post is open after Hoshi gets dressed.]
Hoshi was pleasantly surprised to get an alien language recording from her older brother, who had been visiting friends at the New Berlin colony on the moon. She played the recording several times before attempting it herself. The vocalizations were rather high-pitched and few of them seemed impossible with human vocal cords, but she gave them her best effort.

It definitely got the attention of her dog. "Sounds kind of like a bird chirping, doesn't it?" chuckled Hoshi as she gave Porthos a reassuring pat. Then, she went back to the beginning of the recording and tried it again. This time, she seemed a lot more successful at all the little chirps -- probably because she'd transformed into a bird.

Hoshi was tired after working at the site of the new community center, but it was a good sort of tired. Hopefully, she would have an easier time sleeping tonight without any more troubling dreams about Hurley being stranded somewhere.

Before she could get too settled, Four-Dee beeped to get her attention and brought her a PADD. She had been procrastinating on writing back to Hurley all weekend. It was time to do something about that.

With that out of the way, Hoshi curled up in her bunk with a novel in French. It wasn't much of a challenge linguistically, but she was looking forward to some easy reading.

[Establishy but open for cabinmates, should they stop by.]
Hoshi was still feeling pretty gloomy. There hadn't been any word from Hurley, but she had promised that she would write once a week.

So she sent him an email )

Plus a second email to her friends who weren't in Fandom at the moment )

The door was closed to keep a beagle and a mouse droid from taking their game of chase out into the hallway.

[But the post is open for calls, emails or visitors.]
Hoshi had been frantically trying to get in touch with Hurley since last night to no avail. There was no response to her emails and her phone calls were not going through. Her last hope was Portalocity, but she'd lost track of how long she'd been arguing with their customer service.

"Are you sure? There has to be a portal going somewhere close to my destination? Can you check again? It's Santa Monica, California, 2002. I have no trouble making multiple connections if there's nothing direct..."

But her begging, pleading and crying got her nowhere with the Portalocity representative. She finally hung up the phone and stared off into space, not sure of her next move. Porthos had been able to tell she was upset. The beagle jumped up on the bed and rested his head on her knee, giving her a sad-eyed look. Four-Dee, the mouse droid Hurley had given her when he couldn't take it with him, was softly beeping from somewhere under the nightstand.

[Door closed. Post is open but beware, she's in a really bad mood.]

There's a lengthy info post about the Arms Hotel. Essentially, if your character needs temporary or semi-permanent living quarters, e-mail me and I'll set you up. For big events with lots of visitors, there will usually be a sign-up post for the hotel in advance. One day I'll get around to writing an info post for The Gig, but if you are interested in renting a horse for the day, e-mail me or just ping into that day's post.

I'll be happy to take questions, suggestions for what I should add to my info posts or any tropes that I may have missed.
Hoshi had promised to make dinner for Hurley, so after saying goodbye to her father and Captain Archer, she spend the rest of her day planning the meal. It took her a little while to decide what to serve. She finally went for tempura shrimp and vegetables since it was not too heavy for the warm weather.

After cooking everything in the really nice kitchen on the sixth floor, she brought the food back to her room. This was probably not the occasion to share, since she wanted to spend some time alone with Hurley before he had to leave.

While she waited, she shut the door and put a tea kettle on the hot plate.

[For Hurley]
Hoshi headed back to her room right after her fourth period class, needing to grab a few things before heading to the journalism room to put the finishing touches on this week's newspaper. Since the weather was a bit more wet than she'd counted on, she decided to swap her sweater for a jacket. She was reaching into her closet when…

"Ouch!"

The gremlin hadn't liked being disturbed from its nap. After biting Hoshi, it shut the closet door and went back to sleep.

[Establishy]
"Frak me!"

Louis Hoshi wasn't sure how much ambrosia he had to drink last night, but that probably explained why he woke up in a strange bed with a miserable headache. He just wished he knew where he was, or how to get past the growling dog at the foot of the bed.

[Hoshi is now the BSG character of the same name. Door closed, post is open!]
On a day like this, Hoshi would love to be out there fighting off the latest invaders on the island. However, this weekend, she had received instructions to take a qualifying math exam for one of the colleges she'd applied to, and the exam covered some of her weak areas. So Hoshi had left the fighting to her roommate while she did some last-minute cramming on statistics.

Still, there was the occasional gremlin that managed to get into the room. "Oh please," she groaned, grabbing a heavy book and taking a swipe at the intruder. "I don't have time for this! I still can't figure out how to do binomial and multinomial probability functions."

Yeah, that certainly got the gremlin's attention. It stood there and gave her a confused look.

"I mean, I think I understand the difference between discrete and continuous random variables, but I still don't understand how you solve for the number of trials given the probability and mean," Hoshi ranted on, utterly frustrated. "There's not enough information in the problem to solve it without a setting up a table and graph, but the graph has to use the probability as a variable. That doesn't work when the probability is constant!" She went on to list all the parts of the equation that she'd managed to identify so far.

The gremlin tried to understand what Hoshi was going on and on about, but it didn't understand statistics either. Finally, its head exploded from the information overload.

"And then you have to go make a huge mess on top of all that," grumbled Hoshi, getting up to grab some paper towels.

[Door closed, post is open.]
This is a catch-all post for anyone wanting to advertise in the Fandom High Times!
This is a catch-all post for sending in letters to the editors of the Fandom High Times!
It was a good thing that Hoshi didn't have any Monday classes. After spending most of her weekend asleep and unable to escape bizarre dreams, she had stubbornly stayed up all night Sunday. Somewhere around 6 AM, the exhaustion had finally kicked in and she dozed off for a few hours.

She was still feeling rather out of sorts when she woke up. After fixing herself a cup of tea, she sat on the bed and thought about the person she had been in that other world and the things she had seen. She sincerely hoped that those who survived would find themselves in a better place, but she couldn't feel certain about that.

[Door and post are completely open!]
After making a stop at a very interesting store to pick up a late birthday gift for herself, Hoshi returned to the dorm. She shoved the shopping bag with her purchase underneath her bed and got comfortable, intending to do some reading.

But it wasn't long before she dozed off, and like earlier in the day, she had strange dreams. Odd, racy dreams that left her rather breathless when she woke up with a shock. "If this is what happens when I get something decadent for myself, then Aphrodite better take returns," she groaned.

[Establishy! Some of those links might go to NSFW threads.]
Hoshi stumbled back to the cabin from Caritas without too much trouble, despite all those shots she'd been doing with Penelope. She noticed a blinky light on her cell phone, after a bit of fumbling, listened to the message.

Now, she could have just crawled into her bunk and gone to sleep, but it wasn't like Hoshi to think that sensibly when she was this drunk. And it had been a strange couple of weeks ever since the disastrous poker game back in San Francisco. Hoshi picked up the phone and started randomly dialing numbers.

And if it wasn't bad enough to leave rambling messages for a bunch of alumni, Hoshi decided to call Captain Archer's communicator next. "You big meanie-head!" she shouted before abruptly hanging up.

A few minutes later, the captain managed to call her back. "Are you okay, Hoshi? Where are you? I've been so worried since you went miss--"

"Ponfo miran!!" And she hung up on him again.

[OOC: Establishy! It's late.]
