It had been a long drive to Lindos from the old city of Rhodes, and then an even longer trek by foot up to the Acropolis of Lindos, but the trip had been well worth it. After taking plenty of pictures, Hoshi made her way down to the main town and found a nice little café run by a British woman.

"What will it be, love? Do you want to go with Greek fare or try something a little different? It's not on the menu, but I make a right proper egg and chips," said the waitress, who introduced herself as Shirley.

"That does sound different," said Hoshi. "I'll try that. Do a lot of people go for English food here? I figured everyone would be clamoring for Greek food."

"You'd be surprised. A lot of British tourists get here and then complain that they can't stand foreign food," said Shirley, frowning. "I'll be right back, love. Costas makes a great souvlaki, but he can't make egg and chips like I do."

While she waited, Hoshi reflected on her day so far. Xenos was fun, but he had stayed up way too late at some nightclub the night before and was still sleeping when Hoshi left this morning. As far as she was concerned, seeing the Acropolis of Lindos was higher on her vacation to-do list than going to nightclubs.

There was a little bit of shouting from the kitchen, then a man with a thick handlebar mustache came out of the kitchen with a scowl on his face. Shirley followed behind him, with a frown on her face. She brought a platter out to Hoshi. "Here you go, love. Dig in," she said. "I've got to deal with that good-for-nothing Costas. I do all the work around here and he just picks up female tourists. Mind you stay away from the Greek men while you're here, young lady. Especially if they want to take you on a boat. Then you're in real trouble."

Hoshi raised an eyebrow, but said nothing as she ate her food. Shirley's warning echoed in her mind as she planned her next move. Maybe it would be best if she headed back to Santorini and Fandom just a little bit earlier than she'd planned, and without Xenos.
