Room 423, Friday afternoon

Hoshi had put this off long enough. She wasn't taking a lot with her since she could pretty much get whatever she needed in 2146, but she also made sure to pack up all of her stuff so it would fit in the closet. She figured that Hinata would appreciate the extra space over the summer, and if things worked out really well with Starfleet, then it wouldn't be so hard to have the rest of her things sent home. At the same time, Hoshi really wanted to leave something behind, almost as a way of saying for certain that she would be back in the fall.

She hated the idea of leaving, even if it was just for a few months. Not even the experience she had yesterday with the gremlin had soured her on Fandom. If Travis Mayweather hadn't been waiting for her at the end of the causeway, she would had dawdled a little longer. At least she'd have a nice view of Travis's biceps during the flight to San Francisco.

"Come on, Porthos," said Hoshi, snapping a leash on the beagle's collar. "It won't be long now until we get to see the captain again. I'm sure he'll be happy to see you."

[Establishly and will eventually be a linkdrop. Door and post are open if you want to catch her before she leaves.]

Annja knew that Hoshi was leaving for the summer today, and she wanted to make sure that she was able to say goodbye. She also had put together a "care package" of sorts for her best friend.

She knocked lightly on the door.

"Hey Annja!" said Hoshi, grinning. "Come in. I was just making sure I have everything I need, but unfortunately, I can't fit the whole island in my bag."

"Hi Hoshi! Is there room for a stowaway?" She was grinning.

"I might be able to sneak you on my shuttle to San Francisco, since the pilot is a friend of mine," said Hoshi. "You should see this guy. He's got incredible arms.

"Ooh, he sounds pretty awesome," she said with a grin. She handed Hoshi a box. "Care Package. Mostly DVDs of the things we've been recording."

"He's certainly very nice to look at. That's always the best part about getting a ride home with him," said Hoshi, smiling. "And thank you! I'll be watching those DVDs whenever I get homesick for Fandom."

Which would pretty much be every day next week.

Robin was passing by when he spotted Hoshi, looking like she was getting ready to leave. "Hoshi? Are you going?"

"I am," said Hoshi with a smile. "By next Monday, you'll be able to address me as Cadet Sato."

As impressive as that sounded, Robin was not happy to hear she was leaving. "You were planning on saying goodbye weren't you? Cadet?" he added, so she wouldn't think he wasn't happy for her. He didn't know she planned to come back.

"I've been avoiding them all week, actually," said Hoshi. "I'm not that crazy about saying good-bye."

If only she knew she'd be back a lot sooner than she realized...

"I probably should have come and told you sooner," said Hoshi with a sigh. "I, uh, hadn't planned on spending yesterday running around town."

"The Gremlin bite?"

"Kind of hard to keep it off the radio when I asked Katina for help finding teddy bears," said Hoshi sheepishly.

"Yeah why did you need teddy bears?"

"I have no idea, but for some reason Miss Davis and I were just compelled to chase teddy bears," said Hoshi. "I mean, how can you explain how the heck gremlin spit affects people?"

"Good point." Robin nodded. "I thought I was a guy who thought that Earth was Outer Space."

Like Alex would let her big sib leave without saying goodbye. Yeah, right.

"Come to wish me luck?" asked Hoshi, smiling. "I may need it."

"Of course," Alex grinned. "But I personally don't think you will."

"Still, it couldn't hurt," said Hoshi. "You're going to have to let me know about all the stuff I miss this summer. I really wish I was staying with everyone else."

"Then, good luck," Alex smiled, knowing Hoshi would be fine. "Oh, you can be sure I'll be taking lots of pictures and maybe even some video. Especially if gremlins are involved," she laughed. "You'll be back in the fall, right?"

"Cross your fingers," advised Hoshi. "The captain was rather eager to get me to stay and finish my senior year with tutors, but that's exactly what I came to Fandom to get away from. We'll see how if goes, but he's promised that ultimately, it will be my decision."

"I'll try for toes, too," Alex half-joked. "Well, I know there's a few people here who definitely want you back and might stage a rescue if you don't get your way," she winked.

Hey, what good were wizard powers if she couldn't use them to help friends now and again?

"Well, I already have one wizard who asked if he can visit me on the weekends," said Hoshi, giggling.

"Oh really?" Hey, wherever boys were concerned, Alex was there.

"And I offered to show him around my century if he does come to see me," said Hoshi. "It's a shame, though. I find an awesome guy and he'll be leaving in the fall just as I'm coming back."

"I don't see why he wouldn't visit," Alex shook her head, wondering who this guy was. What? She was curious! "Yeah, that's kind of a bummer," she admitted, frowning slightly. "But there's portals and things to keep in touch, right?"

"And I'm sure that, as a wizard, Ronan has a few tricks up his sleeve to get to places," said Hoshi, grinning.
