Room 423, Monday evening

Two finals down, two more to go. Hoshi was feeling confident about today. She was in the process of folding and sorting her clothing, trying to decide what she wanted to keep here and what she wanted to take home with her.

[Door and post are so very open!]

Jack rapped on her door. "Hoshi? You in? It's Jack for reaaalz this time."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Hi," Hoshi called out. "How did your finals go today?"

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Ugh. Horrible. I had to talk to some guy with bad hair."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
"How could that be horrible?" asked Hoshi, pausing in her folding to look at Jack with a confused look on her face.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Becuase he was a vampire. In a cage. Do vampires use product? Is that what makes them evil?"

Jack was worried about this, because hello? Hair? Also, he should really stop reading the magazines left out in the common rooms.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd expect it's the blood-sucking and killing that makes them evil. I didn't notice any hair when I got attacked by a vampire," responded Hoshi.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"You were attacked by a vampire?!" Jack exclaimed. "When was this? Where? Did he use product?" He ran his fingers through his hair.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hoshi cringed. "This was back around mid-October, during the semester break. And like I said, I didn't get a look at the hair. I was busy not fighting for my life and being rescued by some girl who killed it."

"Oh, man. I'm sorry. Are you okay? You're not a vampire yourself, are you?"

Now is probably not the best time to look for signs of vampirism, even if the person is Japanese AND from the future.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope, definitely not a vampire. I like to eat garlic noodles," said Hoshi.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Those are good," Jack agreed. "Anything pasta is good. So how are your finals? Wait." He actually looks around, and gets the hint of a clue. "You're not leaving, right? Oh, no, I thought you were smart! Don't tell me they kicked you out!"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm going home for the semester break. My ride is picking me up on Saturday," said Hoshi. "My parents probably want to see me. I haven't really communicated with them much."

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Well, that's good, then," Jack said, relieved. "You haven't been writing home?" Jack has. Once. IT was a postcard.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I wasn't sure how," said Hoshi apologetically. "I mean, they are 140 years in the future."

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Right. Cuz pens don't work in the future, right? Wait. How do you write down a note or someone's phone number if there's no pens?"

Right. Because pens are a lost technology for people who move through space in a big saucer with breadsticks sticking out.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"My grandfather had this antique pen. It used ink and everything," said Hoshi. "But it's more efficient to use computers or PADDs. I need to bring some more of them back with me, along with some power cells."

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
"These computer things? Starting to learn how to use them, sort of. What are PADDs? Jeez, I hope things don't get all technological too fast, I just want a pencil and a clipboard for driving a truck, not have to punch in where I want to go on a computer. I mean, it'll take up the passenger seat!"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Not if you get one of those small GPS computers," said Hoshi matter-of-factly.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"A what-pee-ess?" He blinked.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"A GPS," said Hoshi. "You know, global positioning system? It communicates with global positioning satellites to give you your exact latitude and longitude."
Edited 2007-12-18 05:12 (UTC)

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
"With satellites? How would they know where I am? They're all the way up there!" he pointed. At the ceiling. The future was scary!

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"The handheld GPS unit communicates with the satellites, so that's how they know where you are," said Hoshi slowly.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Wait. Are you telling me," he asked slowly, "that there's a computer that'll fit in my hand?" He looks at it. It's a big hand, but...not that big. Heck, that Brainac computer or whatever took up a whole room, and those ones in the computer labs were only terminals, hooked into the big brain in the back!

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hoshi tried to resist the urge to bang her head against the wall. "They could probably fit a mini-computer in your finger one day," she suggested. "That way they could track your every movement."

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Jack just boggled. "I can't take that. That's just... So. You're leaving, and you're coming back. Right?" Much safer. And less likely to make his mullet head explode.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Unless something goes horribly wrong," said Hoshi.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't say that. Something could go horribly wrong."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
"It probably will. Maybe I'll get kidnapped by Tellarites," suggested Hoshi.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
"By what? ...Do you need backup?" He wasn't exactly volunteering...

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm kidding. What could possibly go wrong?" said Hoshi. If only she knew...

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
"You'll be fine?" he asked. Silly boy...

"When do you leave?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Saturday morning," replied Hoshi.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Aw, that's just a week away. So you're going to miss Christmas? What about New Years?" He started thinking about the vampire thing again, checking his hair to make sure it wasn't evil. It still was.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"I really don't know yet," said Hoshi. "They didn't set up my return transportation yet."

She yawned, then looked at the clothes and duffel bag on the. "I think I need to clean this up if I'm ever going to get some sleep," she said, making a face.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
"That's why everything fits into a bag for me," he said. Which wasn't true, what with schoolbooks and such. But he liked to think so. "You want me to let you finish?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"If you don't mind," said Hoshi.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, no problem," he said with a smile. "Let me know before you leave, all right?"

[identity profile] multi-madrox.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie poked his head into the room.

"Excuse me. Have you seen my naked self run through the hall recently?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh, no," said Hoshi. "Why were you running naked through the halls?"

[identity profile] multi-madrox.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Well the coffee bar was open and then there was a mixing bowl and then-"

And that would be when the nekkid!Jamie runs streaking through the hallway howling like a wolf.

"Um. Excuse me," Jamie said and took off after himself.

"COME BACK HERE!"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Home is going to be so boring after this place," Hoshi mumbled to herself.
