Room 423, Monday after classes [2/18]

There was only so much socializing that Hoshi could stand before needing a little quiet time. And after a very busy Friday and Saturday, Hoshi pretty much disappeared into her room for the remainder of the weekend.

So after her mythology class, Hoshi was back in her room, making a pot of green tea to enjoy while she went over the handouts from class. The door was open, though, if anyone dropped by.

"Yeah, they are friends but... kind of more like Ino isn't sure where she stands with Michael, or what she wants really." And this was really hard for Annette to explain. She kind of went with the Dick and A.J. thing, when it had been a thing. "See, Kabuto, he's kind of... slow on the draw, you could say, and Ino and Michael, well, they hooked up, you know, and Ino... well there are feeling's there, naturally, and I don't think she is really mad?" Yes, Annette knew Ino was mad.

"I'm confused," said Hoshi. "Hooked up? So if Ino and Michael were dating, why would she tell me that they were just friends for now? Unless that was code for something else. Was it?"

Ino really owed her for this, Annette thought, turning pink from trying to explain an almost impossible situation. "They weren't exactly dating. I don't think. They, uh, like each other. But they are friends. And... Ino isn't sure what she wants. She kind of wants both Michael and Kabuto but that will never work because the two don't like each other. It might have been code for something else." Uhg. "Do you like, Michael, Hoshi? In more than a friendly way?"

"But how could Ino have both Michael and Kabuto?" asked Hoshi, still puzzled. This relationship stuff made less and less sense the more the learned about it.

"I like talking to Michael, but as more than a friend? I'm not sure," said Hoshi. "I felt like I connected with him and I liked that feeling."

"Some people do it," Annette offered. "Like, I know three people who are in a relationship all together. I'm not suggesting that that is what Ino, Michael, and Kabuto are planning on doing. But, it could be a possibility." Like, never, she thought given Kabuto's stance. "Maybe you could talk to Ino, see how she feels? I feel like I might have pushed something when I shouldn't have," and oh yeah, Ino doesn't know that Annette suggested Hoshi ask Michael to the dance. If Ino learned that, oh boy, Annette would be in some trouble.

"Nevermind, no need to talk to Ino. I just think maybe she might like Michael since they had a romantic involvement and she is still trying to figure it all out."

Hoshi was wide-eyed. "Three people? How does that work?"

She crossed her arms. "I'd rather have Ino as a friend than go out with Michael. Maybe I should just tell Ino that."

"Well..." oh goodness. "They all kind of share each other."

Annette nodded. "Maybe if you told her just that."

"I'll do that," said Hoshi. "Guess I'd better stay away from Michael also."

Annette was feeling really bad about that too, especially since Hoshi seemed to enjoy his company. "There's nothing wrong with hanging out with him, Hoshi... and maybe, you know, just find out if Ino's staked a claim," which omigod sounded terrible.

"Staked a claim..." repeated Hoshi, shaking her head. "Is dating always this confusing?"

She flailed. "I don't know... yes! Yes it is! You just never know what boys want unless it's that one thing and if they don't want that then they want to talk about it!"

Pause.

"Boys are stupid."

"What one thing?" asked Hoshi.

Annette hung her head over her mug of tea. "Sex."

"Oh!" said Hoshi, looking embarrassed. "I'm not sure I'm ready for that."

"Me either," Annette mumbled under her breath, continuing with, "I used to be so innocent."

"How long were you and Dick dating before your broke up?" asked Hoshi.

"Eleven months," she mumbled. Such a long time.

"Did you feel a connection with him?" asked Hoshi. Having lived in isolation for so long back home, she wasn't quite sure what it felt like to be in a relationship.

"Oh yes, at first, for a long while actually. We laughed, enjoyed the same things, overall had a great time together," she answered, feeling upset about the break up. It just ended badly.

"But the connection went away?" asked Hoshi. "That's awful."

"You could say that. Or you could say that Dick stuck his connection somewhere else," she said, her tone bitter.

It took a moment before Hoshi understood the meaning behind the words. "What a jerk," she said. "Maybe he paid too much attention in Barney's class last semester."

"Yes, evidently. Evidently he didn't care about me in the first place. Evidently he was all talk and the I love you's just didn't mean anything at all." But Annette was careful here, after all, she did kiss A.J. that one time. But just once, and it was only a kiss. AU didn't count.

"Well, Jack is not a jerk, so you don't have to worry about that," said Hoshi. "Only problem with him is that he doesn't seem to understand half of what I'm saying. It gets annoying at times. There is someone back home I had really strong feelings for, but nothing's likely to happen there."

Annette raised her brows. "Jack? No... no Hoshi, there is no Jack as in that kind of way. I don't like Jack like that. I... don't want to. He's a little... forward." Yes, Annette was a little upset with Jack. Getting a hotel room and everything. Very presumptuous of him. Of course Annette had gone along, but dammit, sometimes lonliness just had to be conquered.
