Room 423, Wednesday evening

The past week had been entirely insane, from the honesty to the hat situation to an unwanted visit from her bad self. She still felt totally awful for the things she'd said to Porthos, searching a dead body for valuables, and acting like a power-hungry slut. Then there was the whole matter of her evil self flirting shamelessly with Ronan before going home with him. At least the next morning hadn't been so awful once she reassured Ronan that he hadn't taken advantage of her.

She was happy to just stretch out on the bed and take a moment to enjoy some peace and quiet with Porthos sitting nearby. She hadn't let the dog out of her sight after getting him back.

Hoshi giggled. "Someone suggested to my folks that I might need a few years in normal classes just to pick up social skills," she said. "So, yeah, that food class has really paid off. I had no idea you were supposed to eat pretzels with beer."

Hurley smiled. "You know, I think the social skill idea is working just fine, too."

"You should have seen me when I first got here," said Hoshi. "I had difficulty with regular conversations."

"Really?" Hurley said. "Then I'd say you've made huge improvements."

"There are times I wonder if I've hit a limit on how much I can learn here," said Hoshi, looking a bit embarrassed.

Hurley paused. "Uh oh," he said. "Really?"

"Well, I don't want to say that I'm a know-it-all, but really, I think I know pretty much all I need to know," said Hoshi. She paused a beat. "That sounds really arrogant, doesn't it?"

Hurley's face scrunched.

But then he nodded.

"Note to self: don't claim to know everything," said Hoshi, smiling. "Well... I did join flight club this semester. I figured that was a skill I could use."

"Might help with any... starflights you take?" Hurley said.

"Oh, I don't know if I'd ever need to actually fly the ship, but I should know how if I want to be a bridge officer," said Hoshi.

"For emergencies and stuff," Hurley said. "That makes sense."

"That's right! I'm sure it's not all talking to aliens and stuff," said Hoshi.

"Is that what you're gonna do? In the Starfleet thing? Talk to aliens and stuff?" Hurley said.

"Yeah, Captain Archer wants me to be a communications officer," said Hoshi, grinning. "I'd be the one actually sending transmissions and translating when necessary."

"Whoa," Hurley said. "...how do I sign up?"

"Well, it might help if you were from my century, for starters," joked Hoshi.

"I could... pretend?" Hurley said with a joking grin.

"Well, I could try sneaking you on the shuttlepod the next time I go home," said Hoshi. "We could see how far you get. I don't know if people at home would believe me if I told them I'm going to school in 2009."

"I have the same problem," Hurley said. "But, like, oppositely?"

"That's right! You're from the opposite direction," said Hoshi. "You should see the future, though. It is so cool."

"This is the future," Hurley said. "But yeah, if I could ever? I'd love to."

"I forget! I meant my future, which might not match this world exactly," said Hoshi.

"Well, you ever got room to hide me in your luggage, let me know," Hurley said.

"I will, though you'd probably want to ride in the main cabin on the shuttle. It has a better view," said Hoshi.
