Room 423, Wednesday evening

The past week had been entirely insane, from the honesty to the hat situation to an unwanted visit from her bad self. She still felt totally awful for the things she'd said to Porthos, searching a dead body for valuables, and acting like a power-hungry slut. Then there was the whole matter of her evil self flirting shamelessly with Ronan before going home with him. At least the next morning hadn't been so awful once she reassured Ronan that he hadn't taken advantage of her.

She was happy to just stretch out on the bed and take a moment to enjoy some peace and quiet with Porthos sitting nearby. She hadn't let the dog out of her sight after getting him back.

"Ronan got a whole lot luckier," said Hoshi, turning bright red.

"It's weird, because I remember all of it, and somehow it feels like I was watching a movie or something. Is it like that for you, too? I mean, you were totally different."

"That's exactly it," Hurley said. "Like, a movie filmed all... first person and stuff."

"Any kind of fallout from something you did over the weekend?" asked Hoshi.

Hurley shook his head. "I had the luck of really not being me," he said. "How's, uhhh... stuff with your end?"

"Luckily most people understand that weird things happen," said Hoshi. "Porthos forgave me for ditching him, I think. Still have to talk to Angela and explain why I was asking her to take me to her leader. The hardest part was waking up Monday morning and realizing that Ronan didn't realize the night before that I wasn't myself. He was really freaked out."

"Oh, man," Hurley said. "I... that sucks for both of you."

"We'd kinda flirted a bit last week, and then he didn't see me again until Sunday when... you know," said Hoshi. "But we talked afterwards, and I think we're going to be okay. I mean, we were already kind of into each other. Everything that happened just sort of pushed something that would have happened anyway."

"Ohhhh," Hurley said. "So you two are gonna... be a thing?" Hurley said.

"I'm not entirely sure," said Hoshi, but she had a big smile on her face. "I really wasn't looking to get involved with anyone, and I know Ronan flirts with other people, but we're pretty good together."

Hurley nodded. "I can understand. I mean, me and Penelope are in this... open thing? Maybe you two can do that."

"That sounds like a pretty good idea," said Hoshi. "I mean, if I do end up going home this summer for Starfleet training, I don't know how a traditional relationship would survive the time and distance."

"Starfleet training?" Hurley said. "That sounds... kinda awesome."

"It should be," said Hoshi. "I'll be a commissioned officer and everything once I finish. The only problem is that they want me to start this summer and then stay and finish high school there."

"...wait, like... not come back here?" Hurley said. He frowned.

"Yeah, that's the catch," said Hoshi, sighing. "I'm not sure I want to do that. I'd really love to come back for my senior year and everything. It's not really settled yet, though. Some of the senior commanders think I'm still a little young for all this."

"Well... I kinda like you being around," Hurley said. "But you gotta do what's best for you and stuff."

"It is a great opportunity. I'm not sure if I should pass this up," said Hoshi.

Hurley nodded. "But hey, got plenty of time before then, right?"

"It's only February, so I've got a while. And who knows? Maybe Captain Archer won't be able to convince them to accept me before graduation," said Hoshi. "He said that everyone else in the program are all college graduates."

"Dude, you'd have to be... really, college? And they're considering you, still? That's awesome," Hurley said.

"It's a little scary, actually," said Hoshi. "I'm not sure if I'm ready for that."

"But... you must be extra super smart," Hurley said. "Wow."

Hoshi smirked. "I've got a genius I.Q. That's why my parents home-schooled me for so long. They were told that I could learn a lot faster than the normal schools could teach me stuff."

"And now you're... at the school that teaches me eating," Hurley said with a laugh.

Hoshi giggled. "Someone suggested to my folks that I might need a few years in normal classes just to pick up social skills," she said. "So, yeah, that food class has really paid off. I had no idea you were supposed to eat pretzels with beer."
