Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, Tuesday
"So Captain Archer finally made it official. I've been assigned to the Enterprise," Hoshi told Travis Mayweather as they set out for their run in Golden Gate Park.
"About time!" said Travis, though his enthusiasm was tempered a bit by his huffing and puffing. "Was there ever any doubt? The captain wouldn't have anyone else! He's really got a lot of faith in you."
"Let's hope he never has to regret that," said Hoshi, slowing down so Travis could catch up with her. "Geez, Travis! You need to go running with me more often. I could probably run circles around you."
"Hey, you're stationed on planet and have plenty of options for running after your shift. I've been on a series of small ships for the last 12 months. There's not a lot of place to run and I really don't like treadmills," argued Travis.
"Yet another reason to turn down this assignment and run before they actually shoot me into outer space in a tin can," said Hoshi sarcastically.
"Enterpise is definitely not some tin can! It's the largest and most advanced ship in the fleet, Hoshi," Travis corrected her. "You know, you should come with me on the next inspection tour. You're going to be living on that ship eventually. You might as well get comfortable with it."
"I've still got plenty of time," said Hoshi. "Captain Archer still doesn't even have a full crew yet. I doubt the ship will be ready for launch for at least, like, a year. I'll have plenty of time to get used to the idea."
Too bad Hoshi had no idea how little time she had left to keep her feet on the ground…
